My Mother’s Birthday

Today is my mother’s birthday and I plan on giving her a call later on. She is a remarkable woman, widowed with four young children she became a home missionary in West Palm Beach County, Florida. Then later became an overseas missionary to the island of Guam and the Trust Territory. Such an adventerous and brave woman, she took the four of us overseas in 1962 and kept hearth and home together while doing the job of three people. My memories of life there on Guam are quite pleasant and I made friends there that I still keep in touch with. We never felt insecure over there with just one parent and had friends all over the island keeping an eye on us.

Two old layouts about my mother. The first one is a paper layout, using Basic Grey materials. My mother is the same age I am now in this photo and it really made me realize that my mother was not really old when this photo was taken, it just seemed like it to me. The journaling is a letter to my daughters about her and about them and about us.

Love Mother

This second layout was done in April 2006 and I am not real sure about the materials source. I probably got the majority of it at Scrap Girls as they were my prime connection to digi scrapping in those days. I took this photo not too long after she first moved into assisted living and wanted my brothers to see her there as one lives out of the country and the other lives up north.

In honor of my mother’s birthday, I am making today’s freebie a coupon to my store at ScrappersZone. The coupon is good for $5.00 but will only last for three days – until December 24. And of course, it is only good for my products at ScrappersZone. The coupon code is: scmamabday Happy Birthday Mama!

So, I am becoming increasinly lazy here for some reason. Today was THE DAY to clean house. I was going to get so much done! Except all I got done was to go through a pile of junk mail and bills on the table. The pile was at least a month old if not more. But, the mess in the house continues. It is so depressing – why can’t I bring myself to do something about it? When the girls were little, you could eat off my floors I kept the house sooooo clean. Every day I would start at the back of the house and sweep, dust and clean my way to the front. The bathroom would get scrubbed thoroughly at least twice a week if not more. Now, that I am in a bigger house that should be easier to keep up since there is so much more room, I have just given up. I know the pain in my hip causes problems and I know that being on my own most of the time is an issue, but geez folks, I do need to vacum once in a while! Maybe tommorrow I can get something done. If I could just get one area cleaned up I think I would be excited enough to do more. Sigh, so still no Christmas tree. The cats are really getting upset about it I think.

I do know my mother would be very upset with me if she saw how I was keeping house – she taught me to keep a clean house no matter what. As kids all of us had to chip in and help with the housework and then when the older ones left home, it was all up to me. I am not sure why I had to do it all and not the little brother, it just was that way. Or maybe, it just seemed that way!! I promise to do better mother!!
