Quilting

So, I guess I don’t have enough to do and started two new projects that are going to take a long, long while to complete. I am planning on doing a Farmer’s Wife quilt AND and Dear Jan quilt. Both are major quilts and will tax my talents to their utmost.

Information about the Dear Jane quilt may be seen at this website:

But, basically, it has 225 blocks, including some funky triangle things around the edges. The book I purchased has a diagram for each block and then leaves it up to you how you want to make it. One could use templates, paper piecing, freezer paper or whatever floats your boat. Some of the blocks definitely have to be appliqued and some will probably go easier if you hand pieced them. I thought I would just take each block and do what I can.

Information on the Farmer’s Wife quilt can be found here at this website:

I joined a quilt board lately and there is a group of ladies on that board who are going to start doing this quilt the first week of August. There is going to be a lot more help with this quilt as everyone will be doing the same blocks each week and we will be giving each other support and tips. Also, there are templates already made for the quilt as well as a software program that will help with it.

I caved and purchased the software program this weekend. It will do much more than help with the Farmer’s wife quilt, it can also help with ANY quilt or quilt block I want to make. It can print out paper piecing foundations papers, print out templates and even help figure amount of fabric needed to do what I want to do.

Any way, for each quilt, there are pages here to show my progress and to help ME stay motivated. We will see how far I get with these quilts. I am wondering if I will be chomping at the bit and get frustrated at how slow we will be going on the quilts. Perhaps I will work ahead, or perhaps I will just work these two quilts in around other projects.
